Y por qu\u00e9 es ello tan importante. \u00bfCu\u00e1ndo fue la \u00faltima vez que comiste una banana? \u00bfHas pensado en lo que podr\u00eda pasar si las palabras del popular \u00e9xito musical \u2018Yes, we have no bananas\u2019<\/a> (As\u00ed es, no tenemos bananas) se convirtieran en una realidad?<\/p>\n

En la primera mitad del siglo XX, nuestros padres y abuelos tuvieron la oportunidad\u00a0de probar una deliciosa banana llamada Gros Michel
\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ column_padding_mobile=”on” parallax=”off” parallax_method=”off”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” custom_margin=”15px|15px|15px|0px” use_border_color=”off” border_style=”solid”]o, en t\u00e9rminos m\u00e1s coloquiales, Big Mike. Sin embargo, en la d\u00e9cada de los cincuenta, una peligrosa cepa del Marchitez por Fusarium acab\u00f3 con casi todas las plantaciones de banano en Centroam\u00e9rica y Sudam\u00e9rica.
\nPese a los esfuerzos de los productores, esta deliciosa fruta, pr\u00e1cticamente, se ha extinguido.<\/p>\n

En la segunda mitad del siglo XX, los productores de banano, en todoel mundo, decidieron utilizar un nuevo cultivar, el cual se conoce como Cavendish.

Como resultado, y despu\u00e9s de enormes cambios e inversiones en infraestructura, con el fin de adaptarse a las diferentes necesidades de crecimiento y maduraci\u00f3n de los bananos tipo Cavendish, la industria bananera fue rescatada.<\/p>\n

Pero esto no ser\u00eda para siempre\u2026

Proveniente de Taiw\u00e1n, pronto lleg\u00f3 a otros pa\u00edses del sudeste asi\u00e1tico, como China, Indonesia, Malasia y Filipinas, e incluso al norte de Australia. Miles y miles de hect\u00e1reas de Cavendish ya han sido destruidas y muchas m\u00e1s se seguir\u00e1n destruyendo, si no somos capaces de detener la distribuci\u00f3n del Marchitez por Fusarium.

El da\u00f1o econ\u00f3mico de la primera epidemia del Mal de Panam\u00e1, en la d\u00e9cada de los cincuenta del siglo XX, fue asombroso (por lo menos 2,3 mil millones de d\u00f3lares americanos). La cat\u00e1strofe bananera elimin\u00f3 las plantaciones de Gros Michel y tuvo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Desde entonces, decenas de miles de hect\u00e1reas de plantaciones de Cavendish han ido desaparecido en China, Indonesia, Malasia y Filipinas. El da\u00f1o causado por este segundo brote de la enfermedad ya ha superado los 400 millones de d\u00f3lares americanos.
